Chongqing's First Bridge over Yangtze River Retired

Baishatuo Yangtze River railway bridge, a decades-old structure in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, was officially retired from service on Tuesday. Completed in 1959, the 820-meter-long truss bridge which carries two tracks of the Chongqing-Guiyang Railway was the first bridge over the Yangtze River in Chongqing and only the second along the main stretch of the river between Yibin city and the river mouth in Shanghai. The New Baishatuo Yangtze River railway bridge is seen with the previous Baishatuo Yangtze River railway bridge in Chongqing on Jan 9, 2018. The new double-decker steel truss cable stay railway bridge has four tracks on the upper deck for passenger trains with a designed speed of 200 meters per hour, and two on the lower deck for cargo trains with designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
