Intellectual property service platform Bayuegua is gaining influence among businesses in China by using technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence to offer better IP services.
The Beijing-based platform aims to provide one-stop patent services such as filings, assessments, transactions and litigation utilizing new technologies such as big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
The key to serving technological innovation lies in utilizing data, Sun Peng, deputy general manager of Bayuegua, told China Intellectual Property News.
Creators of the platform, founded in 2015, sensed opportunities in the data industry and thus established an advanced and systemized database.
Bayuegua's database, which has access to that of the National Intellectual Property Administration, has access to 130 million entries of patent data from 104 countries around the world.
In 2018, it launched a mobile app which provides more than 40 services including patent application and trademark registration. To date, the app has been downloaded more than 1 million times, according to the platform.
Bayuegua has conducted market research through data collection and analytics in an attempt to serve companies in technological innovation, business operation and decision-making.
Last year, the platform won a bid for a patent navigation project for the fine steel and deep processing industry in Anyang, Central China's Henan province.
It organized a group of professional agents to conduct field research and set up an industrial patent database, preparing analysis reports and designing a technology road map.
Xu Zhongmin, director of Anyang's productivity promotion center, said during a tour of the project in January that he hoped the platform could help local companies access more efficient technological resources and platforms.
Linzhou Fengbao Pipe Industry is one of the largest seamless pipe manufacturers in Central China. The Henan-based company owns several domestic leading production techniques yet it paid little attention to IP protection in the past. That is until patent professionals at Bayuegua helped the company file more than 80 patents - most of them for invention patents - and established an IP protection network.
"Bayuegua can provide clients with a full range of IP services, including IP layout, application, protection, management and operation based on data resources," Sun said.
Such IP services are conducive to mobilizing resources, optimizing industrial structure and boosting local economic transformation and upgrades, he added.
Bayuegua's innovation has run alongside China's IP development and is in accordance with the country's policies and market demand.
In 2017, NIPA released an outline for the development of the patent agency industry during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), encouraging patent agencies to integrate patent data and provide comprehensive information services for innovators.
This year, the State Council issued a guideline to advance the construction of the country as an IP powerhouse, calling for integrating primary data to facilitate the availability of IP data, free of charge or at low costs.
In cooperation with Beijing's market watchdog, Bayuegua has also launched public welfare activities, part of its effort to promote IP protection awareness for small - and micro-businesses.
