The General History of Central Plains’ Culture Is Published 14 Years Later, Filling the Gap of Research on Central Plains’ Culture

历时14年编著！又一权威性著作《中原文化通史》出版 填补了中原地区文化研究空白

The General History of Central Plains’ Culture, a new authoritative work on the general history of regional culture after the publication of the General History of Henan, was published on December 16, which has not only filled the gap of research on general history of the Central Plains’ culture, but also promoted the research on the local history of Henan province.

12月16日，大型地域文化通史著作《中原文化通史》出版问世。这是继《河南通史》后又一权威性著作问世，不仅填补了中原地区大型地域文化通史研究的空白，也推进了河南地方史研究进程。

Hosted by Cheng Youwei, a researcher at Henan Academy of Social Sciences, the book was compiled by a research team which was mainly composed of the researchers at Henan Academy of Social Sciences, together with relevant experts within and outside the province. They spent 14 years on the compilation. About 3.6 million words, the book consists of 8 chapters, which has pushed the local history research to a new height.

该书由河南省社会科学院程有为研究员带领的以河南省社会科学院的有关研究人员为主、省内外相关专家参加的创研团队，通力撰著，数易其稿，历时14年完成，全书分为8卷，约360万字，将河南地方史研究推向了一个新的高度。

According to Cheng Youwei, the “Central Plains” in the book mainly refers to the area of Henan province from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to present, together with the south of Shanxi province, east of Shannxi province, south of Hebei province, southwest of Shandong province and northwest of Anhui province, which roughly corresponds with the area of Central Plains Economic Region newly established by the central government.

程有为介绍，该书所谓“中原”是以明清至今的河南省地域为主，兼及山西南部、陕西东部、河北南部、山东西南部、安徽西北部等地区，与国家新近设立的中原经济区范围大体相当。

The book consists of 8 chapters, namely the Prehistoric Three Dynasties, the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the Qin and Han Dynasties, the Wei, Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Sui, Tang and the Five Dynasties, the Song, Jin and Yuan Dynasties, the Ming and Qing Dynasties (early and middle period), and the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, analyzing the Central Plains’ culture in different historical periods in terms of philosophy, religion, scholarship, literature, art, science and technology, education, customs and etiquette.

该书分为史前三代、春秋战国、秦汉、魏晋南北朝、隋唐五代、宋金元、明清（早中期）、晚清民国等8卷，分别从思想哲学、宗教、学术、文学、艺术、科技、教育、风俗礼仪等方面对不同历史时期的中原文化进行详细阐述。

As a fruit of the major project of philosophy and social science in Henan, the General History of Central Plains’ Cultureis a new authoritative work after the General History of Henan, a new landmark in the study of Henan’s local history and a significant milestone in the study of both Henan’s local history and Central Plains’ culture.

作为河南省哲学社会科学重大项目的最终成果，《中原文化通史》是继《河南通史》后的又一权威性著作，是河南地方史研究的又一标志性成果，是河南地方史研究与中原文化研究的重要里程碑。（记者祝传鹏 编译赵汉青 审校张玉红）
