Archaeological Excavations Started at Song State Ruins in Shangqiu, Henan

宋国故城遗址考古发掘项目启动

 

Archaeological excavations at the city ruins of the State of Song (1,114 BC to 286 BC) was commenced on April 17, according to Shangqiu Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology on April 21.

4月21日,记者从商丘市文物考古研究院获悉,河南省商丘市宋国故城遗址考古发掘项目已于17日正式启动。

The archaeological excavations cover two stages, with a total area of 900 square meters as scheduled. The first stage will run through early July, and after the rainy season, the second stage will run from September to December. At present, archaeological prospection has already started.

宋国故城遗址考古发掘项目计划发掘面积900平方米,计划分两个阶段进行。第一阶段发掘工作持续到7月初。雨季过后第二阶段的发掘工作将从9月持续到12月。目前,考古发掘工作已进入到前期的勘探阶段。

 

The State of Song, a very important state during the Western and Eastern Zhou dynasties, had 35 rulers and lasted about 800 years. Throughout the history of the State of Song, its capital, the political, economic and cultural center, was located in Shangqiu, which proves invaluable for studying the origin of the culture of the State of Song and the civilization of the Shang Dynasty.

据介绍,宋国(公元前1114年~公元前286年)为西周和东周时期一个非常重要的诸侯国,共经历35君,延续约800年。宋国都城是宋国的政治、经济和文化中心,与宋国的发展历史相始终。宋国故城的研究对宋国文化、商文明的起源都有一定历史价值。(中文来源/大河报 翻译/赵汉青 审校/白玉杰)
