Party members from all walks of life in Shanghai said that they have been inspired by the remarks that Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made during the ceremony commemorating the centenary of the CPC in Beijing on Thursday.

The speech by Xi, who is also China's president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, has encouraged them to excel in their respective jobs so as to contribute to the country's future development, they said.

Chen Saijuan, a genetics expert at Shanghai Ruijin Hospital, said that she feels lucky to have witnessed the groundbreaking changes that have taken place in the fields of medical science and healthcare under the CPC's leadership.

"A number of major infectious diseases were eliminated. A universal medical and health service system and a medical security system covering the largest population in the world were established. The prevention and control level of major chronic diseases has been continuously improved," said Chen, who attended the ceremony in Beijing.

"Under the strong leadership of the Party, strategic results have been achieved in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the country. History has proven that without the Party, there would be no such prosperity and strength in China today," she said.

Zheng Junhua, Party secretary of Shanghai Renji Hospital, said that the vision of Party building at the hospital is to form a source of thoughts and culture that is compatible with the hospital's development goal, which is to become one of the flagship medical institutions in Shanghai.

"We'll also call on all the medical workers who are Party members to be pioneers in key programs, leaders in academics, participants in the Healthy China Initiative, advocates of positive thoughts, and lifelong learners," he said.

Yang Li, a professor from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, said he will do his best to contribute to the Party by providing high-quality education to the people.

"I'll strive to be a teacher who uses his strong conviction, benevolence, morals and knowledge to help the young generation build their character and aspirations for the future," said Yang.

Chen Chuan, a policewoman in Shanghai who handles cyber security matters, also attended the ceremony in Beijing.

"I'll keep in mind the instructions from Xi and continue performing my duties faithfully so as to contribute to national security and people's well-being," said Chen.

Li Yong, the head of the Xintiandi police station, which is located near the site of the first CPC National Congress in downtown Shanghai, is another CPC member inspired by the speech.

"As instructed by Xi, we police officers will always put the people first. We will maintain public order, serve the people with a strong work ethic and guard the spiritual home of the CPC resolutely," he said.
