Death Toll from Henan Floods Rises to 302

China's State Council set up a team on Monday to investigate the weeklong devastating rain that triggered disaster and peaked on July 20 in Zhengzhou, Central China's Henan province.

The team will inspect and evaluate the local authorities' emergency response during the rain and punish negligence according to laws or regulations, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

The Ministry of Emergency Management will lead the team and experts will be hired to provide technical support.

The team also will give advice on disaster prevention and reduction based on this event.

As released by the government, the death toll from torrential rains has risen to 302 as of Monday at noon and another 50 people remain missing. More than 14.5 million people across the province have been affected.

A total of 292 people were confirmed dead and 47 missing in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital. Seven people are dead and three missing in Xinxiang city, while the city of Pingdingshan reported two deaths and Luohe reported one.
