French audiences were offered a feast of traditional Chinese operas as the 8th Traditional Chinese Opera Festival in Paris was held in the French capital from Nov 26 to Dec 2.
The six-day festival featured more than 200 performers from six provinces and cities in China. They put on stage five classical Chinese opera types, including Qiongju Opera from South China's Hainan province, Shaoju Opera from Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province and Peking Opera performed by artists from Northeast China's Dalian in Liaoning province. Famous operas performed included Peking Opera classic, Farewell to My Concubine, and The Orphan of Zhao.
"We are confident with the charm of these outstanding Chinese operas. Just as Western classical music has found its popularity in China, I believe high-level performances of classical Chinese operas also could impress the French audience," Yan Zhenquan, head of the China Cultural Center in Paris, said.
