Art fairs are no longer only an occasion for selling and communications for galleries, artists, collectors and curators. In Beijing an art expo aims to integrate deeply into the life of ordinary visitors who have little knowledge of contemporary art but who are curious to know about the varying aspects of art.

The second edition of Beijing Contemporary Art Expo, running from Aug 29 to 31 at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center, provides one such celebration of art and life, gathering dozens of galleries and artists primarily based in the capital.

Gallery booths feature works of artists who have garnered wide acclaim both of buyers and critics. A special section is dedicated to Chinese artists who were born in 1985 and later.

For centuries paper has been an essential material in the creation of Chinese artists to reflect cultural traditions and local experiences. A part of this year's expo works made of paper explore the possibilities of paper in artistic creation.

Public works by 17 artists adorn the outdoor space of the exhibition center, hoping to raise the profile of art and the expo among more people.
