Pepper Growing Spices up Life of Henan’s Village

年交易额100亿，河南这个村的辣椒“红”了

 

These days, red peppers in Niucheng town of Zhecheng county, Shangqiu city, Henan province have embraced the harvest season. Villagers in groups are now busy harvesting peppers in the field which covers an area of 10,000 mu (1 mu equals to 0.067 hectares).

眼下，在柘城县牛城乡的万亩辣椒种植地里，一串串细长的辣椒红得发亮，煞是喜人。村民们三五成群，忙着采摘，呈现出一派丰收的繁忙景象。

Niucheng town has seized a precious opportunity that planting pepper is supported and developed as a dominate industry in Zhecheng county, and expanded its planting area by implementing land circulation policies based on the principles of government leadership, voluntary participation, preferential policy and project support. By taking these measures, the goal of regional layout and large-scale planting has been realized. Those peppers are now entering a mature period, attracting more workers living nearby.

辣椒产业是柘城县的主导产业，牛城乡抓住了这一机遇，坚持政府主导、农民自愿、政策支持、项目支撑的原则，积极稳妥推进土地流转工作，着力扩大辣椒种植面积，实现了布局区域化、种植规模化这一目标。如今田里辣椒逐步进入成熟期，吸引了附近群众前来务工。

“I plant watermelons and peppers on the 217 mu of circulated land this year. The output of fresh peppers per mu is about to reach 3,000 jin (half a kilogram) at least with a revenue of 6,000 yuan based on the current price of 2 yuan per jin. If the income of watermelons (8,424 yuan per mu) is higher than before, I can earn more than 10,000 yuan per mu.” Hao Guang, a local villager, was happily talking about this year’s harvest.

“我流转了217亩地套种西瓜和辣椒，目前看这个长势，一亩地的鲜椒产量至少也得3000斤，按照每斤2块钱的价格，辣椒每亩地收入6000元，再算上之前“8424”西瓜的收入，我一亩地能收入上万元。”谈起今年的收成，种植大户郝广一脸的喜悦。

Now, working in the pepper field and chatting with other neighbors have become her new style of pastime. “I don’t have to do many chores at home. Harvesting peppers here is not only for money, but also for amusement. Our life is getting better and better now.”

土地规模流转后，牛城乡董庄村村民崔玉荣是个闲不住的人，到辣椒田务工，和其他村民拉拉家常，成为了她消遣的方式。“在家也觉得没事，来这摘辣椒，愿干多少干多少，又不是说挣钱单等着花的，现在生活好了，也有吃也有喝，主要就是跑跑玩玩。”

Yan Guiyun got a job at the local pepper base with an annual salary of more than 10,000 yuan after land circulation. Land circulation has solved the employment problem for the elderly, and large-scale planting has also provided her with a steady income, said her. “I’m too old to go out for a job. I can earn 50 to 60 yuan per day by sitting on a bench for harvesting peppers in the field and the salary is paid immediately without any delay, so I am very satisfied.”

村民闫桂云土地流转后，在辣椒基地务工，一年收入一万多元。她告诉记者，土地流转解决了老年人劳力不足的问题，规模化种植，也为她提供了稳定增收的渠道。“我年龄大了，出去也不好找活。搬着小板凳在辣椒地里坐着摘辣椒，一天挣个五六十块钱，摘完后当场都发工资，我是满意得很。”

 

Zhengcheng’s pepper planting area maintains 400,000 mu each year, with an annual output of 150,000 tons (dried peppers), according to the report. Covering the whole domestic market, Zhecheng’s peppers have been exported to more than 20 countries and regions, with an annual trading volume of 700,000 tons, an annual turnover of 10 billion yuan as well as a yearly export earnings of more than 0.2 billion yuan. Zhecheng county has widely known as the “Pepper Capital” in China.

据悉，柘城县辣椒种植面积常年稳定在40万亩，年产干椒15万吨。柘城辣椒市场辐射全国，并出口20多个国家和地区，年交易量70万吨、交易额100亿元，年出口创汇2亿余元，叫响了中国辣椒之都品牌。

 

At present, Zhecheng county has a total of 200,000 people working in the pepper-related industry line. As a result, 36,000 people have overcome poverty and 150,000 are on the way to prosperity. Red pepper has formed a big industry. Zhecheng county has basically shaped a good pattern featuring large-scale planting, scientific management, standardized production, brand building and industrial development.
