95% Key Wild Animals and Plants Protected in Henan

河南省重点野生动植物保护率达95%

 

The annual International Day for Biological Diversity falls on May 22 this year, with the theme of "We're part of the solution #ForNature". Henan's biodiversity conservation has made remarkable achievements with 95 percent of key wild animals and plants protected, according to the news briefing held by the Department of Ecology and Environment of Henan Province on May 20.

5月22日是联合国确定的“国际生物多样性日”。今年的主题是“我们是自然问题的解决方案”。5月20日，记者从省生态环境厅举行的新闻发布会上了解到，近年来，我省生物多样性保护成效显著，重点野生动植物保护率达到95%。

In January, a total of 77 Mergus squamatus were spotted wintering at the Nianyushan Reservoir in Shangcheng county of Xinyang city, hitting a record high in Henan.

今年1月，在信阳商城县鲇鱼山水库，77只中华秋沙鸭在此越冬，创下在河南越冬数量的最高纪录

 

Baer's pochards have seen their habitat expanded in Henan. From Xinxiang to Nanyang, such a critically endangered species can be found everywhere. The Old Yellow River Course National Wetland Park in Minquan has become an important habitat and breeding area for them.

世界极危物种青头潜鸭的活动范围不断扩大，从新乡到南阳，处处都有它的身影。其中，民权黄河故道湿地作为青头潜鸭的重要栖息地和繁殖地，成为我省第一个“国际重要湿地”。

 

A total of 520 species of terrestrial vertebrates have been spotted in Henan, including 35 wildlife species under first-class state protection. Besides, 3,979 varieties of higher plants have been discovered across the province, including 3 wild plant varieties and 24 under first-class and second-class state protections respectively. Moreover, Henan has built 324 protected natural areas, including 30 natural reserves.

调查显示，全省共记录陆生脊椎动物520种，其中国家一级保护野生动物35种；全省已知的高等植物3979种，其中，国家一级重点保护野生植物3种，国家二级重点保护野生植物24种；全省共有各类自然保护地324处，其中自然保护区30处。（中文来源/河南日报 翻译/赵汉青 审校/白玉杰）
