On the morning of July 5, the news briefing of the World Collection Competition of the Yellow River Logo & Mascot was held in Zhengzhou, capital of Central China's Henan province, unveiling the excellent Yellow River logo and mascot designs around the world for the first time. The ancient Yellow River culture is bound to become a super IP.

Inspired by fingerprints and swirl patterns on painted pottery works during the Yangshao Culture period, the logo's design exhibits the Chinese philosophical idea of balance between Yin and Yang, movement and peace

The design of the Yellow River logo that won the Gold Award was not only inspired by fingerprints, but also swirl patterns on painted pottery works during the Yangshao Culture period (5,000 to 3,000 B.C.), demonstrating the idea that the Yellow River culture is the origin and spirit of the Chinese nation. The combination of fingerprints and such painted pottery works' swirl patterns not only symbolizes the lives of the Chinese people (fostered by the Yellow River) and the everlasting genetic inheritance, but also indicates that the Chinese culture with a long history has been passed on from generation to generation.

黄河标志金奖作品设计灵感，来自于指纹和仰韶文化彩陶纹，寓意黄河文化是中华民族的根和魂。极具生命力的指纹与仰韶彩陶涡形纹相融合，象征母亲河注入炎黄子孙的血脉，象征亘古不变的基因传承，寓意中华文脉源远流长、生生不息、薪火相传。

 

Having one's fingerprints recorded is the most solemn expression of commitment for the Chinese people. With the element of fingerprints, the Yellow River logo also implies that the Chinese people, with the same roots and the strengthened cultural confidence, vow to protect, inherit and promote the Yellow River culture and to work together to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

按指印是中国人最庄重的承诺表达方式，将指纹元素导入黄河标志，寓意黄河儿女延续历史文脉、坚定文化自信，集体宣誓保护传承弘扬好黄河文化，为实现中华民族伟大复兴的中国梦凝聚精神力量。

 

The overall design of the Yellow River logo also contains the Chinese philosophy of balance between Yin and Yang with a proper composition. The "几"-shaped element composed of 9 layers of swirl patterns represents the Yellow River spirit featuring indomitable perseverance, while the "人"-shaped element means that the Yellow River is the Chinese nation's mother river, fostering civilization and full of vitality, not only embodying the idea of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, but also highlighting the people-oriented philosophy of "the nation is composed of people, and people are all that matter to the nation."

黄河标志整体图形呈天圆地方之势，构图稳健有力。由九层涡形指纹组成的“几”字形代表奔腾不息、百折不挠的黄河精神，内嵌“人”字则寓意黄河是充满活力、孕育文明的母亲河，彰显出人与自然和谐共生的人文理念，凸显出“江山就是人民、人民就是江山”的人本思想。

 

The yellow color of the logo represents the Yellow River, yellow soil and the yellow race, while the 9-layer swirl patterns symbolize the joint efforts of the 9 provinces (autonomous regions) through which the Yellow River goes in strengthening ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin in the new era to make it a river that benefits the local people.

黄河标志总体呈现黄色系，代表黄河、黄土、黄种人，九层涡形代表黄河流域九省区一张蓝图绘到底、一茬接着一茬干，在新时代新征程中推动黄河流域生态保护和高质量发展，让黄河成为造福人民的幸福河。

六个吉祥物各具特色，融合多种文化和精神

 

Named "He Bao" ("河宝"), the outstanding Yellow River mascot design contains a group of cartoon images bearing profound cultural heritage and the spirit of the times, which highlights the idea that protecting the Yellow River is vital to the great rejuvenation and sustainable development of the Chinese nation.

黄河吉祥物优秀作品，则是一组承载深厚文化底蕴和洋溢时代精神的动漫形象，组合名为“河宝”，凸显保护黄河是事关中华民族伟大复兴和永续发展的千秋大计。

 

The six mascots are called "Huang Xiaoxuan" ("黄小轩"), "He Xiaoluo" ("河小洛"), "Ning Xiaotao" ("宁小陶"), "Tian Xiaolong" ("天小龙"), "Xia Xiaoli" ("夏小鲤") and "Ping Xiaoniu" ("平小牛"), which incorporate the cultures of Yellow Emperor, Heluo, Yangshao, dragon and carp with the image of Iron Ox Guarding the River and the spirit of the ox, reflecting the most representative cultural heritage, natural ecology and spiritual symbol along the Yellow River.

六个吉祥物分别取名“黄小轩”“河小洛”“宁小陶”“天小龙”“夏小鲤”“平小牛”，融合了黄帝文化、河洛文化、仰韶文化、中华龙文化、鲤鱼吉祥文化以及镇河铁牛和三牛精神，囊括黄河流域最具代表性的文化遗产、自然生态和精神标识。

 

Traversing the time and space, "He Bao" cherishes a good prospect for the future, which is not only in line with the status and spirit of the Yellow River, but also echoes with the idea that "the peace of the Yellow River is significant to the stability of China" and the Yellow River logo. They will serve as messengers to promote the Yellow River culture, tell the Yellow River stories, spread the Yellow River spirit and convey the common vision of ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin.
