At Zhengzhou No. 1 People's Hospital in Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, Central China's Henan province, a Pakistani visitor infected with COVID-19 is under quarantine there. Touched by their caring and treatment, he wrote a thank-you letter to the Chinese medical staff on August 17.

In China, people have coined a special term for Pakistan – Iron Pak, a vivid description for the friendly and unbreakable ties between the two countries. What did this Iron Pak write in the thank-you letter?

提起巴基斯坦，不少中国人脑海中会立马浮现出“巴铁”这个词，这是中巴两国坚不可摧友谊的象征与写照。这位“巴铁”究竟写了一封什么样的感谢信呢？

Here is what the letter says, "Hello, dear staff. I never forget you! I am very thankful and grateful (to) all hospital staff doctors, nurses (and) ward sisters who care to me. (You are) very intelligent, very loving, very hard-working, very caring, very obedient (and) very nice staff! Please, if I have any mistakes, please forgive me. You are very special staff, (and) I never seen these staff! I pray for you, (and) always happy!"

Such a short letter expressed the Pakistani patient's appreciation to the Chinese medical staff. Now, they have become friends.

简短的话语饱含了对医护人员的肯定，也让他和大夫、护士们成了朋友。

 

He arrived at Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport by plane on August 10 local time and was preliminarily diagnosed as a confirmed COVID-19 case through epidemiological surveys. According to the requirements of Chinese government, after having his swab sample taken for nucleic acid tests, he was quarantined at a designated hotel to wait for the result. Unfortunately, he tested positive. Then, he was transferred to Zhengzhou No. 1 People's Hospital in Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone for treatment.

据了解，这位“巴铁”友人于当地时间8月10日乘坐飞机到新郑国际机场。经流调，初步诊断为新冠肺炎，遵守我国要求进行核酸检测后在隔离酒店等待。但遗憾的是，结果显示阳性，之后该患者遵守医疗制度来到了郑州市第一人民医院南院区隔离治疗。

At first, with a dry cough and runny nose, he felt a little nervous and anxious due to the language barrier. He wanted to make a phone call to his family, but failed since IDD service was not available on his mobile phone at that time. So the medics brought him a mobile phone designated for those in quarantine. After talking to his family on the phone, he felt relieved.

入院时，患者干咳、流涕，加上语言不通，有些紧张、焦虑，于是想给家人打电话，可他的手机因故打不了国际长途，于是医护人员就把科里隔离病房专用手机拿给他用。在跟家人通上电话以后，他的心情放松了一些。

During the treatment, doctor Han Senning and the nurses were talking with him in English, but the results were not so satisfying due to his Pakistani accent. By grasping some key words or sentences like "flu", "I want check" or "medicine", the medics finally understood that he wanted to receive treatment as soon as possible. So Han told him in English, "We will send you some Chinese medicine tomorrow".

就医期间，郑州市第一人民医院医生韩森宁和护士们用英文和他交流、沟通哪里不舒服，虽然患者说的是英文，但非英氏、非美式，一句话只让医护人员听懂了一个“flu”，后来又听懂了“I want check”“medicine”。医务人员恍然大悟，“哦，明白了，原来他想让检查，想尽快给他治疗。”于是，韩森宁用英文安抚他，“稍等下，明天我们会给您发中药。”

 

For this special patient with a language barrier, the medics put in more efforts.

对于这个特殊的病人，科室都很关注他的病情，由于语言不通，医护人员纷纷上场展示“英语实力”，用英文与其沟通交流，并且每天查房都要付出更多的耐心。

TCM, a quintessence of Chinese culture, has left a deep impression on this Pakistani patient during the treatment.

这次治疗，也让外国友人见识到了我们国家的传统国粹——中医药的厉害。

According to Han, with two gene segments testing positive, it was confirmed that he had been infected with the virus. At present, there is no efficient medicine for COVID-19 either domestically or abroad. So by reference to the 8th version of China's Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19, a TCM treatment plan has been adopted.

据韩森宁介绍，病人入院后，检查了新冠肺炎核酸检测中的两个基因片段，均为阳性，确诊为新冠肺炎。而目前，国际国内均没有针对新冠肺炎的特效药，因此参照第八版新冠肺炎诊疗治疗方案，按照国家要求，对其采用中医、中药治疗方案。

 

Concerning the effect, Han said, "TCM really works. We have started treating him with TCM therapies on the second day of his being hospitalized. At present, only one gene segment tests positive, indicating that he is getting better."

中医治疗效果如何？韩森宁说，“中医治疗效果是实实在在的好，病人来后第二天，我们就给他喝上中药了。8月17日，病人的核酸结果显示，原本是两个基因呈现阳性。目前，其中一个基因已转为阴性，也就是说，单从这个指标上来看，他比入院时情况要有所好转。”

 

"Although he is getting better now, with such symptoms as a runny nose, dry cough and cold totally gone, medical observation is still needed together with multiple rounds of nucleic acid tests. Only when he tests negative twice and is under medical observation for 14 days does he meet the clinical cure standard. Besides, he still needs to be quarantined locally after being discharged from the hospital." Han told dahe.cn.

“在症状上来看，病人刚入院时流鼻涕、干咳、感冒的症状已经没有了，病情在持续好转，但我们仍然需要继续观察，反复去做核酸检测，确保病人两次核酸检测后，完全转成阴性，还要满足14天观察要求，才能达到治愈标准，并且病人在出院之后，还要在当地进行隔离。”韩森宁表示。（中文来源/大河网 翻译/赵汉青 海报/实习生王君艺 审校/陈行洁 白玉杰）
