COP15 | “云”上逛展！河南生物多样性原来如此丰富

On October 11, the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, known as COP15, kicked off in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province. The Online Exhibition of China Pavilion in 2020 UN Biodiversity Conference was also launched at the same day. What are the highlights of the Exhibition Hall of Central China's Henan province?

10月11日，联合国《生物多样性公约》第十五次缔约方大会（COP15大会）在昆明召开，备受关注的中国馆线上展也正式上线。河南馆“布展”如何？有哪些精彩呈现和有趣的故事？记者将带你一同领略。

The majority part of Henan province is located at the south of the Yellow River. The middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River are criss-crossed with dense forests and numerous wild elephants, therefore Henan was recognized as the land of elephants in ancient times and is called "Yu" (豫) for short, which is composed by a hieroglyph "象" meaning elephant in English. The left and right parts of the hieroglyph "豫" seem like a person holding an elephant. Therefore, the people in the Central Plains have fostered a sense of conforming to nature and protecting nature since ancient times.

河南，因大部分地域位于黄河以南，黄河中下游地区河流纵横、森林茂密、野象众多，所以河南又被描述为人牵象之地——“豫”。可见自古以来，中原人就有着顺应自然、保护自然的价值观。

That's the reason why we chose the Yellow River as one of the main themes of Henan Exhibition Hall," said a source from the Department of Ecology and Environment of Henan Province. Out of the four chapters of the hall, two are related to the Yellow River.

“因此，我们把黄河作为河南馆的主线之一。”省生态环境厅自然生态保护处负责人告诉记者，在此次展出的四大板块中，有两大板块都讲述了黄河的故事。

In Chapter One themed The Origin of Civilization in Heaven and Earth, the river element reveals the relationship between the Central Plains civilization and the Yellow River. It also presents the stories of Yu, the founder of the Xia Dynasty (21st century-16th BC), who is said to have tamed the floods of the Yellow River, and Jiao Yulu, the Party secretary of Lankao county, Kaifeng city, who had successfully fought against the three hazards of sandstorm, waterlogging and salinization. Besides, the achievements of construction of modern water conservancy projects and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin are also introduced.

The Yellow River is the cradle of China. Located between the northern subtropics and warm temperate zone, Henan is rich in biodiversity. 520 species of vertebrates are known across the province, including 35 species of national first-class key protected wild animals and 101 species of national second-class key protected ones.

大河是生命之源，河南又位于北亚热带和暖温带过渡地区，生物多样性丰富。调查显示，全省共记录陆生脊椎动物520种，其中国家一级保护野生动物35种，国家二级保护野生动物101种。

These rare animals are exhibited in Chapter Two themed Land of Splendours & Beautiful Henan. At the old course of the Yellow River in Minquan county of Shangqiu city, an Aythya baeri tells the story of her family’s return to the homeland. At the Macaque Nature Reserve on Taihang Mountain, an Macaca mulatta enjoys her better life there. Besides, a Siberian whooper swan also depicts her special journey from Siberia to Sanmenxia city for winter.

而这些珍贵的小动物们，将在“锦绣河山·大美河南”展厅与观众在线互动。在民权黄河故道边，青头潜鸭“浅浅”为大家讲述了家族重回故乡的故事；太行猕猴“小行”分享了自己在太行山猕猴国家级自然保护区里的美好生活；来自西伯利亚的大天鹅“小西”，娓娓道来飞至三门峡越冬迁徙的有趣旅程……

To create a rich biodiversity, persistence also matters much apart from natural advantage.

造就丰富的生物多样性，除了得天独厚的自然禀赋，还需要持之以恒的呵护。

In the exhibition hall, the arduous efforts of Henan made for biodiversity protection are also presented. For example, the number and coverage of wildlife epidemic disease monitoring stations keep expanding and improving with 54 monitoring stations above the provincial level.

在展厅里，你将了解到我省为生物多样性保驾护航所做的诸多努力——不断扩大和提高野生动物疫源疫病监测站的数量和监测覆盖面、省级以上监测站达到54个、开展生物多样性监测、过渡带森林生态系统研究……

The online exhibition will last to the first half of 2022. The global public can visit the exhibition through PC or mobile phones.
