A Man from Jiyuan Takes Care of Macaques for 30 Years in Mountains

济源“猴保姆”深山守猴30年

Every year, tens of thousands of tourists are attracted to the Wulongkou National Macaque Nature Reserve in Jiyuan city of Henan province by more than 3,000 macaques there. Since 1991, under the care of Kuang San'ao, its controllable number of macaques has increased from more than 100 to today's over 3,000 while controllable population from 1 to 16.

山不在高，有猴则名。在济源市五龙口国家级猕猴自然保护区，有3000余只猕猴活跃其间，每年都有数以万计的游客冲着这些“大自然的精灵”慕名来到景区。1991年至今，在他的悉心照料下，这里的猕猴可控数量从最初的100余只增加到目前的3000多只，可控种群由原来的1群增加到16群。

Kuang San'ao is locally known as the macaques' head, king, babysitter, etc., for his devotion to their protection.

说起这一切，不得不提及为此默默付出的“猴保姆”匡三傲。“猴司令”“太行猴王”“猴保姆”这些被众人赋予的名号，背后凝聚着匡三傲对猕猴保护付出的心血。

Kuang San'ao comes from a family that has been training monkeys for three generations. His father Kuang Shuming made a living by performing monkey shows in the past and later started working at the Wulongkou National Macaque Nature Reserve. Several years ago, to take care of his father, Kuang San'ao went back from Guangdong and replaced his father at the nature reserve.

匡三傲祖传三代驯猴，堪称“驯猴世家”。其父匡书明以前靠耍猴谋生，后进入五龙口国家级猕猴自然保护区负责驯猴。多年前，为了照顾年迈的父亲，匡三傲放弃了在广东的工作来到五龙口景区，接替父亲开启了他的驯猴生涯。

Over the years, Kuang San'ao has fostered a deep bond with the macaques. Now, out of love, his son Kuang Zhenjing has also joined his team after college graduation.

一晃数年，他以景区为家，和这里的猕猴建立了深厚的感情。如今，他的儿子匡振京大学毕业后，因为同样喜爱猕猴，也加入了猕猴保护工作。

Kuang San'ao has treated the macaques like his children for 30 years. Different from others' brutal monkey training methods, he never beats the macaques but still works harmoniously with them.

30年来，匡三傲与猕猴甘苦相伴，像对待自己的孩子一样，和它们建立了深厚感情。别人驯猴靠的是“打猴”，但匡三傲对猕猴不打不骂，却能和猕猴和谐交流。

Kuang San'ao always goes out early and comes home late since sometimes he has to travel more than 65 kilometers per day to feed the macaques or conduct relevant investigations.

喂食、投食、普查，为了照顾和管理好这些猕猴，匡三傲有时一天要跑130余里地，常常是早出晚归。

When the macaques struggle to find enough food to survive the winter, Kuang San'ao and his partners have to travel far away to deliver foods to them. It is not rare that temperature at the top of the mountain usually drops to minus 10 degrees Celsius. Besides, some slopes are covered with shrubs and some even have no roads. Faced with such a situation, he would take out his sickle and blaze a new way by himself. His trouser legs are usually soaked with snow after that, with scratches on his hands and face.

隆冬季节，猕猴们难以找到充足的食物过冬，匡三傲就和同伴背着一袋袋玉米和胡萝卜干，翻山越岭给过冬的猕猴们送去口粮。地处大山深处的景区山顶气温骤降到零下十几摄氏度，道路结冰，有些山坡灌木丛生，甚至无路可走。面对这种情形，匡三傲会拿出镰刀砍出一条路来。当他历经几个小时，跋涉几十公里给猕猴们送完口粮，身上的裤腿早被雪浸湿后结成了“冰坨”，手上、脸上也被灌木丛划出了多道血印子。

Kuang San'ao has already been accustomed to the Taihang Mountains featuring cliffs. He could not remember how many times he had fallen down and gotten injured. "There are some roads that only we can deal with and that only we will."

匡三傲对此不以为意，太行山脉悬崖峭壁，对他来说多年来早已习惯了。究竟自己摔过多少次，伤过多少次，他已经记不清了。“有些路，只有我们能走，也只有我们会走。”

In winter, the genial sunshine makes people feel comfortable. With his whistling, different macaques are running down the hills amid the cheers and applause from tourists.

冬季里，和煦的阳光照进景区，让人感到一丝暖意。面对每天到来的游客，匡三傲的辛苦付出便派上了用场。伴随着他的声音，先是几只成年公猴从半山腰探出头来。随后不久，在它们的身后，大小混杂的整个猴群四散奔跑着下山。眼前的这一切，让游客发出阵阵惊呼与掌声。

Perhaps,this is the greatest compliment to Kuang San'ao.
