President Xi Jinping met on Wednesday with representatives attending a meeting in Beijing that honored the role models in implementing the country's Peaceful China Initiative.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, chatted with the representatives and had a photo taken with them.
He congratulated the role models and encouraged them to make greater contributions to building a higher-level peaceful China.
China started the initiative in 2003 with a view to enhancing people's safety and social stability. Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the country has taken substantial measures to strengthen the building of a peaceful China to ensure long-lasting peace and stability and increase people's sense of fulfillment, happiness and security.
The 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for national social and economic development has made it clear that China will ensure development and security and continue the Peaceful China Initiative at a higher level in the next five years.
Addressing the meeting on Wednesday, Guo Shengkun, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, called for generating strength from Xi's care and encouragement to further advance the implementation of the Peaceful China Initiative.
Efforts should be made to ensure higher-level political security, social stability and people's tranquillity to make greater contributions to building a modern socialist country in all respects and realizing the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation, Guo said.
At the meeting, a total of 140 model organizations and 129 individuals were commended for their work in building a peaceful China.
