President Xi's Visits before Spring Festival

For ten years in a row, President Xi Jinping has visited people at the grassroots level ahead of Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Let's check out some of the most memorable moments during his pre-Spring Festival tours.

Xi visited villagers' homes and inspected the post-disaster reconstruction in areas affected by last year's floods as well as local work in restoring farming, ensuring the public's access to heating in winter, consolidating and expanding anti-poverty achievements and advancing rural vitalization.

Xi went to Qianxi county in the city of Bijie and inspected the ecological environment of a major tributary of Wujiang River.

He visited a village in an ethnic Miao township and madeHuangba, a traditional dessert made of sticky rice, with villagers.

He also visited a workshop creating Miao-style embroidery.

Xi went to a village of the Wa ethnic group in Qingshui township of the city of Tengchong to learn about poverty alleviation efforts and extend his Chinese New Year's greetings to the villagers.

Xi visited the home of farmer Li Fashun, where he learned about the family's daily life, and was invited to join the family in making rice cakes. He also beat a wooden drum of the Wa ethnic group three times, a local ritual activity to bless the coming year.

Beijing

Xi visited Beijing's primary-level cadres and residents in downtown neighborhoods.

Xi dropped into two courtyards along the hutong in central Beijing's Qianmen area, inquiring about the living conditions of local residents after the renovation projects in the neighborhood.

Xi also called on a nearby express delivery station and visited the deliverymen who were on duty.

Sichuan

Xi visited the homes of impoverished villagers of the Yi ethnic group who live deep in the Daliang Mountains of Zhaojue county, Sichuan province in Southwest China.

He asked the villagers about their lives and discussed poverty alleviation with local officials and villagers.

Xi stressed the importance of precision in the battle against poverty, saying poverty alleviation should focus on targeted people and industries, and use the right tools to produce results during his tour to northern China's Hebei province.

During visits to rural settlements he asked residents a number of questions: How did they obtain drinking water? When did they buy their television? How many TV programs could they receive? What activities had been arranged for Spring Festival?

During his trip to Shenshan village, a poverty-stricken village in Jinggangshan city, Xi met with villagers and the village Party chief to learn about the progress that has been made in poverty relief through "precision" measures.

While visiting the house of Zuo Xiufa, offspring of a revolutionary martyr, Xi was glad to see Zuo has shaken off poverty by using local bamboo resources to start his own processing business.

Xi bought festival gifts before visiting old acquaintances in Liangjiahe village in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, where he worked as an "educated youth."

He asked about villagers' incomes, crops, livestock, medical insurance and the village's infrastructure and land preservation efforts.

Xi inspected a shantytown renovation project in Arshaan and urged the local government to improve living conditions for the people.

Xi also paid a visit to forestry worker Guo Yongcai, 74, who lives with his five family members in a hut measuring 38 square meters. Inside the house in a dilapidated neighborhood, Xi checked the cellar and the fireplace and chatted with Guo to learn about his difficulties.

Xi visited Yuangudui village in Weiyuan county and talked with villagers at elderly Party member Ma Gang's home.

Xi emphasized efforts to ensure millions in arid parts of Gansu have access to stable supplies of drinking water during his tour.

He also inspected a reconstruction site in Dongxiang autonomous county of Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture. During meetings with farmers-turned-workers, Xi called for more care of migrant workers and further efforts to guard their legitimate rights and interests.
