Zhumadian

Located in mid-southern Henan, Zhumadian covers an area of 15,083 square kilometers with a permanent resident population of 7,008,427 (the 7th national census) and has jurisdiction over 9 counties and 1 district.

With a long history, Zhumadian is remarkable birthplace of Li Si (who was the prime minister of Qin Dynasty) and Fan Zhen (who was a materialistic thinker in the Southern Dynasties) and other great people in history. In addition, Zhumadian is the headstream of the Double Ninth Festival (the 9th day of the 9th lunar month) and one of the cradles of the love story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai (one of the four ancient China’s love stories). Chaya Mountain is titled as National Geopark and “Chinese Penjing Landscape” where Journey to the West was shot. Tongshan Mountain and Baiyun Mountain with picturesque scenery and abundant humanistic resources including tomb of Li Si and Fuxi’s Divinatory Pavilion all contribute greatly to the tourism of Zhumadian.

Zhumadian has been actively speeding up the industrial upgrading and pillar industries have taken shape in food processing, coal chemical, pharmaceutical, equipment manufacturing, textile and building materials. Lots of outstanding backbone enterprises, such as Lantian Group, China Meheco Topfond Pharma Co., Ltd., Haohua-Junhua Group, Baiyun Paper, Zhumadian CIMC Huajun VehicleCo., Ltd. and Wang Shouyi Shi San Xiang Multi-flavoured Spice Group Co., Ltd. have high reputation in China and the world at large. Zhumadian is an important production base of grain and edible oil, thus it is often favorably called “China’s Granary” “Edible Oil Depot in Central China” and “Kingdom of Sesame”.

Zhumadian enjoys convenient transportation network with Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Shenzhen High-speed Railway, National Highways 106 and 107 traversing from the north to the south and five expressways traversing, namely Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, Daqing-Guangzhou Expressway, Xincai-Biyang Expressway, Shanghai-Xi’an Expressway and Jiaozuo-Tongbai Expressway.

Zhumadian has established the sister city relationship with Medgidia of Romania.
