Located in northwestern Henan, Jiaozuo administers 2 cities, 4 counties and 4 districts, covers an area of 4,071 square kilometers and has a permanent resident population of 3,521,078 (the 7th national census).

Thanks to its long history, Jiaozuo enjoys abundant tourism resources and is dotted with tourist attractions. For instance, the Yuntai Mountains Global Geopark, which includes the Yuntai Mountains, Qinglong Gorge, Fenglin Gorge, Shennong Mountain and the Qingtian River, is among the first 28 Global Geoparks recognizedby UNESCO. The city is also known as the ”Holy Land of Tai-Chi” as it's the birthplace of Chen-style Tai Chi.

Building on its sound industrial foundation, Jiaozuo has developed itself into the production base of auto parts for China Torch Program, National Aluminum Industrial Base and National Demonstration Base for New Industrialization. It has ten priority industries including equipment manufacturing and auto parts, forming a complete industrial chain and showing marked cluster effect. Jiaozuo is a famous breadbasket in China. The Chinese yam, glutinous rehmannia, hyssop and chrysanthemum it produces are renowned as the ”Four Great Herbal Medications in Jiaozuo".

Jiaozuo is a hub in Henan's star-shaped high-speed railway network. The city is advantageously located in the area connecting northwestern Henan and southeastern Shanxi, as Zhengzhou-Jiaozuo Railway has been put into service and the constructions of Zhengzhou-Taiyuan Railway and Jiaozuo-Jinan-Luoyang Inter-City Rail are picking up pace.

Jiaozuo has several platforms for opening-up including Jiaozuo Customs and Henan Dezhong Bonded Logistics Center. The city has set up sister city relationship with five cities, including Chungju of South Korea, Lublin of Poland and Thunder Bay of Canada.
