Located in the most northern part of Henan, Anyang covers an area of 7,413 square kilometers with a total population of 5,477,614 (the 7th national census) and administers 1 city, 4 counties and 4 districts.

As one of the ”Eight Great Ancient Capitals in China”, Anyang is a famous National Historical and Cultural City. It owns considerable units of cultural relics under the state protection, like Museum of Yin Ruins, Memorial Temple of Yue Fei and Tianning Temple Pagoda. The ruins of the palaces and temples of the Yin Dynasty are inscribed on the World Heritage List.

Anyang, an important industrial base of Henan, has established an industrial system with equipment manufacturing, metallurgy & construction material, coal chemical and food and medicine as the mainstay, and new energy, electronic information and textile asits competitive industries. Anyang is home to numerous prominent enterprises including Anyang Iron and Steel Group, Anyang Tobacco Company, Anyang Chemical Industry Ltd. Liability Company and Linzhou Heavy Machinery Group. Anyang is Henan's major base for agricultural production, the biggest production base for food and vegetable in the province and national production base for high-quality wheat. The city is designated by the Ministry of Agriculture as a favourable cultivation area for grain, cotton and oil crops.

As a regional transport hub, Anyang enjoys a convenient transportation network with Beijing-Guangzhou Railway and Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway traversing the city. It has grown into a logistics center connecting Central China Economic Region and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development Region. Anyang has set up sister city relationship with Schaerbeek of Belgium, Soka of Japan and Lethbridge of Canada.
