Henan's Ratoon Rice Embraces Harvest
再生稻头季迎丰收
Ratoon rice has entered the harvest season recently. In South Henan, the ears of rice are plump and ripe for harvesting.
眼下，正值再生稻收割季，豫南稻田里，稻穗饱满，一派丰收景象。
On August 5, two harvesters were busy working in a rice field in Caozhai village of Shangcheng county, Xinyang city. Standing by the field, Cao Qitong, Party secretary of the village, said that both the grain output and farmers' income have increased substantially thanks to ratoon rice, and now their enthusiasm for grain farming is highly incentivized, too.
8月5日，在商城县鄢岗镇曹寨村一块稻田里，两台收割机穿梭。站在田边看收稻的该村党支部书记曹启铜说：“因为种植再生稻，村里粮食产量大幅度提高，群众种粮收入增加了，种粮的积极性更高了。”

Last year, Caozhai village planted normal rice on its 3,800 mu (1 mu equals some 0.067 hectares ) of farmland with the highest yield reaching 1,400 jin (1 jin equals 0.5 kg) per mu. In 2016, Cao Qitong tried to grow 100 mu of ratoon rice with a yield of 1,260 jin during the first round of harvest while more than 700 jin during the second, realizing a net income of over 1,000 yuan per mu.
曹寨村共有耕地3800亩，过去一年种植一季水稻，亩产最多1400斤，一亩地收益500元左右。2016年，曹启铜试种再生稻100亩，结果头季产量达1260斤，再生季产量达700多斤，每亩地纯收入超过1000元。
In 2017, Caozhai village started growing ratoon rice. By 2019, Caozhai's ratoon rice yeild per mu had hit record high in Xinyang for 3 consecutive years, making the village well-known for its ratoon rice growing.
据了解，2017年，曹寨村开始整村种植再生稻。2017年至2019年，曹寨村连续三年创信阳市再生稻亩产纪录，成为当地著名的再生稻种植村。（中文来源/河南日报 记者/李运海 编译/赵汉青 杨佳欣 审校/陈行洁）
