Located in the northwest suburbs of Anyang city, Henan province, Yinxu, or the Ruins of Yin (Yin, today's Anyang), is the earliest capital site that can be confirmed by both historical records and archaeological excavations in China so far. Yin was the last capital of the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 BC).

A large number of cultural relics, including stone tools, pottery wares, bronze wares, jade articles and oracle bones on which the earliest Chinese characters are carved, are collected and exhibited at the Yinxu Museum. With a history of over 3,000 years, oracle-bone inscriptions, a significant part of the project to trace the origins of Chinese civilization, have advanced Chinese history by about 1,000 years.
