'Home' for Chinese characters fully completed in Anyang

After the completion of phase II construction, National Museum of Chinese Writing in Anyang city of Central China's Henan province opened to the public on November 16 with a brand-new look. The city is known for being the home of oracle bone inscriptions.

11月16日，坐落于“甲骨文之乡”河南省安阳市的中国文字博物馆续建工程和汉字公园正式面向公众开放，标志着中国文字博物馆全面建成。

With a total area of 389.4 mu (1 mu equals about 666 square meters), the phase II construction involves 2 venues and 1 Chinese Writing Park. The newly-built venues, covering an area 3 times that of the main one opened in 2009, are located to the east and west of the main venue respectively. A bird's eye view of the 3 venues looks like a Chinese character "合" (harmony in English), embodying the Chinese nation's traditional concept of "harmony between man and nature". Besides, the 2 venues have 4 exhibition halls, displaying over 600 pieces or sets of cultural relics and artworks, including bronze wares, rubbings, epigraphs, porcelain and calligraphy works.

中国文字博物馆续建工程和汉字公园项目总占地面积389.4亩。续建工程建筑面积是主体馆建筑面积的三倍，分东、西两个场馆，它们与主体馆形成合抱之势，俯视效果如同汉字“合”字，体现了中华民族“天人合一”的传统文化理念。同时，续建工程还建设有四个专题展区，标准化展出青铜器、拓片、墓志、瓷器、书法作品等各类展品600余件套。

The Chinese Writing Park, covering an area of 214 mu, integrates the elements of Chinese characters into the landscape design. Through featured water systems, plants of different heights and buildings of various styles, the ecology, nature and culture are harmoniously integrated together.

汉字公园总占地面积214亩，将汉字文化的多维度表达方式融入到景观设计之中，并通过特色水系、高低错落的植物和色彩形态各异的建筑，把生态、自然、人文有机融合在一起。

Constructed in two phases, National Museum of Chinese Writing is a national first-class museum with the functions of preservation, display and study of cultural relics. The main venue, covering an area of 22.7 thousand square meters and opened in November 2009, is a main project during the phase I construction. Over the past 13 years, it has received nearly 15 million visitors.

据了解，中国文字博物馆，是经国务院批准建设的一座集文物保护、陈列展示和科学研究功能为一体的国家一级博物馆，分两期建设。一期工程建设内容主要包括主体馆，建筑面积2.27万平方米，于2009年11月开馆，开馆13年来，已累计接待参观观众近1500万人次。（赵汉青 杨佳欣/文 何蒙贺/剪辑 陈行洁/校）
