9 container routes of Jianghuai Canal launched

江淮运河9条集装箱航线开航

China has officially put into operation its Jianghuai Canal recently. On the morning of August 19, a ceremony marking the launch of the first 9 container routes of Jianghuai Canal was held at Zhoukou Central Port and Xinyang Huaibin Port in Central China's Henan province as well as Hefei Paihe Port, Fuyang Yingzhou Port and Wuhu Port in East China's Anhui province simultaneously.

此前，“世纪工程”——引江济淮工程航道江淮沟通段（江淮运河）开启试运行。8月19日上午，江淮运河9条集装箱航线开航仪式在安徽合肥派河港、周口中心港、信阳淮滨港、阜阳颍州港、芜湖港同步举行。

The 9 container routes will greatly facilitate the exchanges among the 5 cities of the 2 provinces by lowering logistics costs by 200-300 yuan/TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit).

这9条集装箱航线开航，将改变原本单一通过淮河水运绕道京杭运河沟通长江的运输路径，大幅缩短两省五市的时间和空间距离，物流成本将节约200~300元/TEU（20英尺标准集装箱）。

The voyage between Huaibin and Hefei has been shortened from 7 to 3 days with the distance reduced from 995 kilometers to 335 kilometers. Besides, the voyage between Huaibin and Wuhu has been shortened from 6 days to 4 days with the distance reduced from 850 kilometers to 480 kilometers.

据了解，淮滨—合肥航线，航程由原来的995公里缩短为现在的335公里，航行时间由原来的7天缩短为现在的3天；淮滨—芜湖航线，航程由原来的850公里缩短为现在的480公里，航行时间由原来的6天缩短为现在的4天。

Being one of the 36 major inland river ports in China, Zhoukou Central Port is also the largest modern comprehensive port and container port in Henan. Xinyang Huaibin Port, the starting point of the water freight route on the mainstream of Huaihe River, is the closest port of Henan to the Yangtze River and most accessible to the coastal cities.
