Bai Juyi (772 AD-846 AD) was a renowned poet of the Tang Dynasty who advocated new-style ballads and folk songs in the style of the Han Dynasty. A resident for 18 years of Luoyang as he grew older, Bai Juyi and his friends often gathered at Xiangshan Temple, earning him the nickname, "Xiangshan Jushi" (the Hermit of Xiangshan). In 846 AD, he died at the age of 75 and was buried in the temple that became known as Bai Garden. The garden is situated on the side of the Yihe River, opposite the Longmen Grottoes. The main attractions in the park are divided among the Green Valley, Letian Hall, the Poem Corridor, the Tomb Area, the Japanese Calligraphy Gallery and the Taoist Book House. Here is the only park to commemorate Bai Juyi.
