On December 29, nearly 20 international friends from America, Russia, Poland, New Zealand, Pakistan, Malaysia and other countries, who participate in the event of "A Tour to Central Plains - International Youth Explore Extraordinary Oracle Bone Inscriptions in Henan", visited Yin Ruins in Anyang city of Central China's Henan province to trace the origin of Chinese civilization.
Yin Ruins has been confirmed by both historical documents and archaeological excavations as acapital site, the first such ruins so confirmed in Chinese history. So far, about 160 thousand pieces of oracle bones have been excavated at Yin Ruins and about 4,500 separate words have been discovered. In 1936, YH127 oracle bone pit was discovered at Yin Ruins, including 17,096 pieces of oracle bones. Characters inscribed on these oracle bones record important information during the reign of King Wuding of Shang Dynasty(1600-1046BC), including astronomy, geography, military affairs, agriculture,etc. It is considered as "the earliest library and archive in China" by the academic circle.
The discovery of oracle bone inscriptions and the archaeological excavations launched at Yin Ruins have proved the existence of Shang Dynasty, bringing recorded Chinese history nearly 1,000 years earlier than previously believed. Oracle bone inscriptions are significant materials for studying the Shang Dynasty culture and tracing the origin of Chinese civilization.
