Tianshui City of Gansu Province, the location of the Dadiwan Site, is said to be the hometown of Fuxi, the ancestor of Chinese nation. Many exquisite pottery pieces have been unearthed here. The most beautiful one among them is undoubtedly this Painted Pottery Bottle with Human Head Shaped Mouth which was unearthed in 1973.
The bottle has a height of 31.8 cm, a diameter of 4.5 cm, and a bottom diameter of 6.8 cm. The texture is fine red mud pottery. The upper part is a round carved portrait. The body is painted with light red and black colored patterns. The sculpture presents a girl's face with a peaceful and gentle expression, paired with earrings. The bottle's body is slightly round and bulging, hence some studies suggest that the pottery represents a pregnant woman.
This girl with a straight bang has delicate facial features and deep eyes. Her slightly open mouth seemed to be telling ancient stories from 5000 years ago on the banks of the Yellow River.
