The domestic tourism market saw stable growth in the Dragon Boat Festival holiday — a three-day break from Saturday, said the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Latest figures from the ministry show that domestic scenic spots received 110 million tourism visits over the holiday — up 6.3 percent year-on-year. The festival also had three days of break last year in mid-June.
These visits generated about 40.4 billion yuan in tourism expenses ($5.6 billion), which increased by 8.1 percent year-on-year, according to the ministry.
Usually falling on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, the Dragon Boat Festival has numerous celebration events such as dragon boat races and eating sticky rice dumplings, or Zongzi in Chinese.
