Built on the side of cliffs of the Taihang Mountains, the Red Flag Canal is located at the border of Shanxi, Hebei, and Henan provinces. The canal winds around the side of a cliff, through 42 tunnels and along the side of the Taihang Mountains. The main canal is 71km long. Including the distribution branches, the irrigation system is claimed to have a total length of 1,500km, which irrigates the fields of the Linzhou district of Anyang city, Central China's Henan province.
地处山西、河北和河南三省交界处附近，红旗渠沿着太行山脉的悬崖边缘蜿蜒而上，穿过42条隧道，主渠道全长71公里，包括分支灌溉系统总长度达1500公里，灌溉了安阳林州地区的农田。
The canal was carved out on the Taihang mountains in the 1960s and the main channel was completed in 1965, after villagers mobilized themselves for the project to ensure the water supply to drought-ridden Linzhou. No heavy machinery was used in digging the waterway, whose length exceeds the distance between London and Vienna.The construction of the canal was intended to take water from the Zhang River and divert it though the Taihang Mountains.The canal was initially designed to be used for 20 years, but is still in service.
红旗渠是在1960年代在太行山上开凿而成的，主渠道于1965年完工，当地村民自发动员，确保灌溉枯旱的林州。在挖掘这条水道时,当地人民未使用任何重型机械，其长度超过伦敦到维也纳的距离。这条运河运河横跨太行山脉，将漳河水引入林州，最初设计用于20年，但至今仍在使用。
The Red Flag Canal was a miracle created by Linzhou people with spirit of "self-reliance, hard work, innovation, unity, cooperation, and selfless dedication". The construction of the Red Flag Canal took place under conditions of scarce resources and outdated technology. The process was filled with hardships and challenges. Workers toiled under extremely difficult conditions, relying on rudimentary tools to painstakingly carve through mountains and rocks. The 1500 km-length red flag canal, ended a long drought and miserable history of Linzhou.
红旗渠是林州人民以“自力更生、艰苦奋斗、团结协作和无私奉献”的精神创造的奇迹。红旗渠的建设是在资源匮乏、技术落后的条件下进行的，其过程充满了艰辛与挑战，工人们在极其艰苦的条件下，依靠简陋的工具，一锤一钎地开山凿石。这条长达1500公里的红旗渠结束了林州长期干旱和悲惨的历史。
The Red Flag Canal was considered to be a great achievement of the Chinese workers in the 1960s and was the subject of several movies. The Red Flag Canal was featured in propaganda both internal and external to China, as an exemplar of what workers could achieve and local mass initiative.
红旗渠被认为是1960年代中国工人的伟大成就，成为几部电影的主题。红旗渠在国内外的宣传中被作为工人能够取得成就的典范和地方群众自发行动的例证。
Nowadays, the Red Flag Canal has transformed into a renowned tourist destination, drawing visitors from all over the worldto explore and marvel at this engineering wonder. As the story of the Red Flag Canal travels overseas, the "Red Flag Canal spirit" has become a symbol transcending nationalities and borders, carrying significant international influence and cultural appeal.
