Shangqiu city in Central China's Henan province has recently advanced agricultural irrigation in all respects, so as to make sure the summer planting proceeds smoothly amid the continuing droughts.
The local power supplier has played its part by promptly resolving the problems encountered by farmers in utilizing electricity for irrigation.
The State Grid's Shangqiu Power Supply Co said it has dispatched workers to carry out surveys across Shangqiu and identify the potential hazards in electrical facilities such as well pumps.
Based on the needs of the farmers, the workers have also installed new utility poles, transformers, and transmission lines in the city, said the company.
"The weather is so hot, but the workers barely take a break even at noon... We are so grateful to them," said a local villager.
Meanwhile, the workers review their work every day and update plans accordingly, so as to ensure a high work efficiency, the company added.
Hu Ludong, marketing director of the company, said so far 6.86 million yuan ($943,303) has been invested and 56 new transformers have been installed.
Besides, 1,575 electrical hazards related to well pumps have been successfully eliminated across the city, said Hu.
The company said further efforts will be made to consolidate the existing achievements, ensure the stability of power supply, and thus better support agricultural irrigation.
