Henan sets a new bird record: Spot-breasted Parrotbill visits Funiu Mountain area

河南省刷新鸟类新纪录 “新朋友”点胸鸦雀到访伏牛山区

Recently, during a bird survey at an altitude of 600 meters in the Huangshi'an Forest Area of the Funiu Mountain National Nature Reserve in Henan Province, Li Changkan (a renowned wild bird expert and professor at Zhengzhou Normal University) and his research team observed and photographed a Spot-breasted Parrotbill. It has been confirmed as a new bird species ever recorded in Henan.

7月25日，记者获悉，近日，河南省野生鸟类知名专家、郑州师范学院教授李长看科研团队在河南伏牛山国家级自然保护区黄石庵林区海拔600米区域进行鸟类调查时，观察并拍摄到1只点胸鸦雀。经鉴定，确认其为河南省鸟类分布新记录种。

The Spot-breasted Parrotbill belongs to the order Passeriformes, family Paradoxornithidae. It has a white and mottled face, black ear coverts, orange-yellow beak, and bluish-gray legs.

点胸鸦雀隶属于雀形目、鸦雀科鸟类。脸颊白色而斑驳，耳羽黑色，嘴橘黄色，脚蓝灰色。

The Spot-breasted Parrotbill is distributed in northeastern India, Myanmar, northern parts of the Indo-China Peninsula, and southern China. In China, it is primarily found in mountainous regions south of the Yangtze River basin.

据悉，点胸鸦雀分布于印度东北部、缅甸、中南半岛北部和中国南部。在我国主要分布在长江流域及其以南的山地。

"The location where the Spot-breasted Parrotbill was discovered this time is in the mountainous area of the Funiu Mountain, an extending range from the Qinling Mountains. This area is relatively close to its traditional distribution in the southern Qinling Mountains and the northern Daba Mountains. Moreover, both areas are part of the transitional zone between northern and southern climates, sharing similar ecological environments and climates. It is speculated that the Spot-breasted Parrotbill has naturally expanded its habitat to the Funiu Mountain area, suggesting it may be a resident bird there as well." Li Changkan said that further investigation and research are needed to determine whether there is a stable breeding population of the Spot-breasted Parrotbill in the Funiu Mountain area.

“此次发现点胸鸦雀的地点位于秦岭余脉伏牛山山区，距离其传统的分布地秦岭南部和大巴山北部都比较近，且同属于南北过渡带，生态环境和气候相似。推测点胸鸦雀为自然扩散至该区域，在伏牛山区应该也为留鸟。”李长看表示，是否存在稳定的繁殖种群，还需要进一步调查研究。
