China's summer grain production reached a record 150.75 million metric tons this year, up 0.7 percent from a year earlier, as higher yields offset a slight decline in planted area, according to data released Friday by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The figures, based on surveys in 25 major summer grain-producing provincial-level regions, marked the highest summer grain output on record.

The area planted with summer grain fell 0.2 percent year-on-year to 26.53 million hectares, while the average yield rose 0.8 percent to 5,681.6 kilograms per hectare, lifting total production by 1 million tons from 2025.

Wheat, China's main summer grain crop, followed a similar pattern.

The area planted with wheat slipped 0.3 percent to 23.01 million hectares, while the yield increased 0.9 percent to 6,039.6 kilograms per hectare.

As a result, wheat production rose 0.6 percent from a year earlier to 138.95 million tons, accounting for more than 92 percent of the country's total summer grain harvest.
