In an acknowledgment of the role played by the China International Import Expo in introducing global innovations to China and deepening cooperation with various partners, a number of multinational companies that have participated in every past edition of the event are ready to attend once again.
Participants emphasized that innovation often begins with exchange, and the CIIE, the ninth edition of which is scheduled to open in Shanghai on Nov 5, will bring together government officials, industry leaders, research institutions, entrepreneurs and companies from around the globe, igniting new ideas in innovation and cooperation.
Germany-based Siemens Healthineers will showcase practical instances of its collaboration with China's healthcare industry in its exhibition area. In the past editions of the CIIE, the company has exhibited over 200 products, 85 percent of which have been approved for the Chinese market, and 60 percent of which have begun local production.
"Through this year's expo, the main message we want to convey is deeper localization and more open collaborative innovation," said Li Wei, vice-president of Siemens Healthineers China. She added that with six production and research and development bases and two open innovation centers in China, the company aims to assist Chinese medical institutions in improving diagnostic capabilities, operational efficiency and accessibility to quality healthcare services.
For Bill Anderson, chairman of the board of management of German life sciences company Bayer AG, the answer to what brings Bayer back to the event year after year is simple: the CIIE has become an inspiring platform for exchange where partners listen to, learn from and work with one another.
"At CIIE, we sit down with Chinese partners and explore how we can innovate together. The best part is that the conversations don't stop after the six days of the expo. They often grow into partnerships, investments and innovation programs, where global science and local insights come together," said Anderson, adding that the company will debut around 30 innovations at this year's expo.
Novartis, a healthcare company based in Switzerland, regards the CIIE as a window through which China opens itself to the world and an open platform that brings together global innovation and connects China with the world. At this year's edition, the company will comprehensively display its enhanced strategic layout in China and highlight its enhanced collaboration with external partners.
In collaboration with its partners, Novartis will also showcase conceptual explorations of low-altitude transportation solutions, highlighting the potential of integrating biopharmaceuticals with the low-altitude economy.
For some foreign trade and economic delegations, the CIIE is a platform to further consolidate China's position as their trading partner and use Shanghai as a link to connect with the Asia-Pacific market.
The state of Mato Grosso, Brazil's leading agricultural commodities and livestock producing region, is leveraging the CIIE to expand its traditional strength in products such as soybeans, corn and beef to include more categories such as specialty beans and sesame.
"With the opening of a Shanghai office last November to promote the state's products and facilitate investment, we not only hope to bring more high-quality products to Chinese consumers, but also look forward to using Shanghai as a hub to attract Chinese companies for opportunities in processing, logistics and the broader trade and economic fields," said Ariana Guedes de Oliveira, international affairs director of Invest in Mato Grosso.
Mato Grosso's 70-member delegation will span sectors such as tourism, communications and healthcare, reflecting the state's desire to engage in broader economic cooperation with the Chinese market.
