Yue Fei was a strategist and a national hero of the Southern Song Dynasty. He was born in Tangyin, Xiangzhou (now Tangyin in Anyang). When Yue Fei was fifteen or sixteen years old, the Song Dynasty was invaded from the North by the state of Jin. The government and higher authorities of the Song Dynasty were so corrupt and incompetent that the country was at a critical juncture.
岳飞（1103-1142），南宋军事家，民族英雄，相州汤阴（今安阳汤阴）人。岳飞十五六岁时，北方的金人南侵，宋朝当权者腐败无能，节节败退，国家处在生死存亡的关头。
One day, Yue Fei's mother said to him, "Now the country is in a difficult time, what are your plans?" Yue Fei said, "Go to the front line, kill the enemy and be loyal to the country!" His mother was very satisfied with his answer, because "serve the country with the utmost loyalty" was her requirement for her son. She decided to tattoo the characters on the back of her son and let him remember this oath forever. When Yue Fei untied his shirt, his mother asked, "Are you afraid of pain?" Yue Fei said, "A small steel needle is nothing. If you are afraid of even the needle, how can you go to the front line to fight?" Yue Fei's mother first wrote four words "jing zhong bao guo" (literary meaning "serve the country with the utmost loyalty") on Yue Fei's back, and then stabbed the characters with an embroidery needle. After that, his mother coated them with vinegar ink. Since then, the four Chinese characters "jing zhong bao guo" were never wiped out from Yue Fei's back. Later, Yue Fei took it as his motto and went to the front line to kill the enemy and became a famous hero fighting against the Jin intruders.
一天，岳母把岳飞叫到跟前说：“现在国难当头，你有什么打算？”岳飞说：“到前线杀敌，精忠报国！”岳母听了儿子的回答，十分满意。“精忠报国”正是母亲对儿子的期望，她决定把这4个字刺在儿子的背上，让他永远记着这一誓言。岳飞解开上衣，请母亲下针。岳母问：“你怕痛吗？”岳飞说：“小小钢针算不了什么，如果连针都怕，怎么去前线打仗！”岳母先在岳飞背上写了字，然后用绣花针刺了起来，刺完之后又涂上醋墨。从此，“精忠报国”4个字就永不褪色地留在了岳飞的后背上。后来，岳飞以“精忠报国”为座右铭，奔赴前线，英勇杀敌，立下赫赫战功，成为一名抗金名将。（杨佳欣）
